Josef Perl Presentation (Video 1)
Josef Perl told students at Tideway School what life was like for him before the war.
“Now I’ll tell you a little bit about myself, what kind of family I came from. I was born in Czechoslovakia on the 22nd of April 1930….”
Summary : Life on the farm …. My dog …. My horse …. Jews and Gentiles got on well. Length: 5 minutes and 1 second.
Things begin to change.
“As I said this kind of happiness only lasted until 1938…”
Summary : Hungary governs the area where Josef lived – his dog being shot by a Hungarian soldier – horses confiscated.

SCHOOL
“And of course schooling stopped because they got rid of the Czech teachers and we were waiting for Hungarian teachers to take over. After a few days the order came through for all children to go back to school….”
Summary : the treatment of Jewish children at school.

“In 1940 there came an order that all Jews living within a mile of the main road had to report to the Synagogue…”
Summary : the deportation of the Jews in cattle wagons.
